Die beiden Autoren und Regisseure des ersten "Crank"-Films, Brian Taylor und Mark Neveldine, haben jetzt bestätigt, dass es eine Fortsetzung des 2006er-Action-Hits geben wird. An den Story-Details werde momentan noch gearbeitet. Sicher sei allerdings schon, dass die Filmemacher nicht auf den Prequel-Zug aufspringen wollen. Das neue Abenteuer setze direkt am Ende des ersten Films ein. Fans dürfen damit auch auf eine Rückkehr des Hauptdarstellers Jason Statham hoffen.

Also,ich muss sagen,ich habe mir den MI:3 nicht gegeben.Die Wirkung des 2. empireonline.comEmpire caught up with Crank co-directors Brian Taylor and Mark Neveldine recently and they spilled some details about the Crank sequel, set to shoot early next year. Warning: There are spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen the first film.
"Crank 2 will pick up exactly where Crank one ends," says Taylor. "It's a true sequel. Jason Statham will return. It's not a prequel, it's not his brother, it's not a dream sequence. He will [scrape himself off the floor]".
As you'll no doubt remember, Crank ended with Jason Statham plummeting from a helicopter clutching the bad guy, since he was already doomed due to the poison that had been injected into his body and would kill him if his heart rate dropped below rutting rabbit levels. This would seem to make it tricky for the character to come back.
"We're finding that a lot of people were thinking, 'Oh, Crank 2 can't be done'," adds Neveldine. "But we came up with an idea, we wrote the script, and after the studio read it they couldn’t believe that we pulled it off. And of course, the best test was giving it to Jason and Jason turned down every other project so he could do this, start this in the spring of next year. He was so excited, he couldn’t believe it".
As are we! For ridiculous, hilarious, literally adrenaline-fuelled antics, Crank was hard to beat. And the directors promise this will go bigger.
"It’s going to be more sexual, more violent – more of everything," laughs Taylor. "We realise with a movie like Crank, you can’t do a sequel and do 60% or 70% of what the original was. You have to go twice as hard. So that’s what we’re going to do. If we’re going to live up to the first one with the sequel – we’re taking it WAY past the point of the first one".
Crank 2 is set to start shooting on April 25, 2008.

(We'll have lots more on the movie soon!)
While there, we had a chance to talk to Lakeshore Entertainment producers Robert Burke and David Rubin, and the latter answered a few questions about the impending sequel to Crank that Neveldine and Taylor will start prepping shortly after finishing the filming of their current project. The script has been finished for some time, and since the story takes place in L.A., they'd like to shoot back in L.A. in April.
(Note: The next paragraph contains a spoiler for Crank so if you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and stop reading about its sequel. Instead, go buy or rent it on DVD before reading on.)
The big question on everyone's mind is how they're going to deal with continuing the story of Jason Statham's character Chev Chelios, who (2nd spoiler warning!) died at the end of the first movie. "It's cool. That's the central question and the way they've answered it is really exciting and fun," Rubin told us in between takes of an intense action sequence, "It's really funny and really clever. I remember when we made 'Crank' how we were shooting the scene where he died, and we all laughed because 'there would never be a sequel to this movie.' Those guys are just so unique and their vision is just so specific to them that if you are excited about their vision than you'll love the way they solve and answer that question." He also debunked the early rumors that Chev has a "robotic heart." "That was a real stretch," he chuckled.
When asked about other rumors that people who died in the first movie might be back, Rubin would only respond quizzically with, "You never know with those guys. Are they really alive or are they not? And are they those people or are they related to them?"
There could be some new actors joining for the sequel as well. "We have a lot of ideas right now about 'Crank 2' and a lot of really exciting stuff that the fans are really going to dig, and it's just about the process of fantastic idea elimination," Rubin continued. "Neveldine-Taylor like to start with a lot of ideas and they're constantly exploring them and taking them to their fullest potential and then seeing which ones are going to live. We're still processing all the ideas for this movie, and with 'Crank 2' it's the same. The great thing with Neveldine-Taylor is the smallest idea they might have some times that we think is not really that prominent, can sometimes blossom into this huge thing. We're still with this movie discovering all those things and working them out, and 'Crank 2', those guys are making a lot of notes and the ideas are still percolating. The script is great but it's interesting because there's Neveldine-Taylor as a writing team and there's Neveldine-Taylor the directing team and the transformation happens when we're actually in our office prepping the movie and when they become the directors of the movie, the ideas just transform and have a life of their own."

Q: Obviously with the writers strike things have been affected...
Tom: We have a script.
Q: Oh, you do?
Tom: We have a script and we are starting it right about April 1st.
Q: Crank was such a stylistic piece based on his condition, now that they’ve changed the hook - now that it’s an electric heart how does that change the style.
Tom: It’s... the last time I mentioned a little bit about it the writers and directors almost went nuts that I said something because it got on the internet but it doesn’t affect the style. It’s actually similar and more extreme, so what propels Jason is even more extreme than the drug that he took.
Q: With the success of the first film - it was a very popular film - you guys... is it a similar kind of budget? Are you guys spending more on it?
Tom: It’s actually similar. We had to pay Jason more and the director’s more and so forth, but it’s not... we generally don’t do that where the sequel becomes so much bigger and less likely to be successful. No, the style will be the same, the shooting schedule is within 2-3 days of the other one.
Q: Are you thinking more in terms of trilogy and future sequels now that it’s established?
Tom: We’ll see... it leaves off where that’s possible. If the public embraces it - I think it’s going to be bigger than the first one.

Statham: Yeah, two franchises. Fucking hell. It’s crazy because over the past few months, I’ve had a ton of offers. You want to do something you want to do and you want to do something that people want you to do. You don’t want to just do a movie to be different. It’s like, does this work for me? Right? It’s a character I’ve played and the script’s okay but where do you score in that film? So you just have to put everything on the scale. Right at the time, Transporter 3 and Crank 2 made the most sense because they’re the characters people like. But people like to pigeonhole you into the corner of that’s all you can do but they’re going to do that anyway. If you do something that is away from appealing to the public they go, "Why didn’t he just do Transporter 3? Everyone wanted to see that!". You can’t fucking please everyone so you just have to please yourself. If everyone enjoys it, then great. You can never please everyone.

Amy Smart will reprise her role as Chelios’ girlfriend and Clifton Collins Jr. will play his nemesis.
Bai Ling also is joining the cast, along with Dwight Yoakam and Efren Ramirez, who are both returning from the original.
In “Crank 2,” Chelios faces a mobster who has stolen his nearly indestructible heart and replaced it with a battery-powered ticker that requires regular jolts of electricity to keep working.
Filming begins April 28 in Los Angeles on the pic, which Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor wrote and will direct.
Lakeshore’s Tom Rosenberg, Gary Lucchesi, Skip Williamson and Richard Wright produce.
Lionsgate will handle North American distribution, while Lakeshore has international.
