Ridley Scott to Make New Blade Runner Film
Source: Deadline, August 18, 2011

Following his work on Prometheus, Ridley Scott is ready to return to the world of "Blade Runner," reports Deadline. The site says that Scott is committing to direct and produce "a film that advances his other seminal and groundbreaking science fiction film."

While the site says it is not sure if the project will be a sequel or prequel to the 1982 film, Warner Bros-based financing and production company Alcon Entertainment announced earlier this year that they had secured film, television and ancillary franchise rights to produce prequels and sequels to the iconic sci-fi original.

Back then, Alcon said that the franchise rights "would be all-inclusive, but exclude rights to remake the original. The Company, however, may produce projects based on situations introduced in the original film."

Alcon co-founders and co-Chief Executive Officers Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove will produce along with Bud Yorkin. Cynthia Sikes Yorkin will co-produce. Frank Giustra and Tim Gamble, CEO's of Thunderbird Films, will serve as executive producers.

Ridley hat aktuell Angst um seine Rente oder was soll das Herumkramen in seinen alten Hits?

In an interview, Scott said he is on board to direct a “Blade Runner” follow-up and has been interviewing writers who can help him with the screenplay. Scott says the new project is “liable to be a sequel.”

Hampton Fancher wird wohl erneut am Drehbuch werkeln, die Handlung spielt einige Jahre nach dem ersten Teil und eine Dame wird die Hauptrolle spielen.
Female Protagonist to Lead Blade Runner Sequel

With the announcement that original Blade Runner co-writer Hampton Fancher is on board for the sequel, director Ridley Scott also revealed a bit more to The Daily Beast.

Yesterday, the filmmakers said that "the much-anticipated project is intended to be a sequel to the renowned original. The filmmakers would reveal only that the new story will take place some years after the first film concluded."

Scott told the site that he "started my first meetings on the Blade Runner sequel last week. We have a very good take on it. And we'll definitely be featuring a female protagonist."

I'm going through Blade Runner now," Scott says, likening the process to his work on Prometheus. "You start off with a blank sheet and you start to evolve. Sometimes you walk into this wilderness of mirrors that don't make any sense at all. Then, suddenly, two and two do make four and you think, 'Oh, that's good,' and you put that up there. It's a series of paving stones."

Among the commentary's other insights is Scott's explanation for casting Guy Pearce as a 96-year old man. Because of the way cryogenic sleep is portrayed in the film, Scott imagines a world wherein crew members are provided mental exercises to keep their brains from atrophying. A scene was planned and never shot that would have seen a younger Peter Weyland.

"I had every intention of showing him as a younger man on board the super yacht in the cyber-Mediterranean with a lot of cyber-girls," Scott says. "As if he was going to say, at 96, 'If I'm going to into a cyber-sleep and I can select that sleep, I may as well be in my prime at 42 with some super-girls having a jolly good time and doing it for two and half years.'"

Offer Out to Harrison Ford to Return for Blade Runner Sequel
Source: Alcon Entertainment, May 15, 2014

Warner Bros-based Alcon Entertainment (Prisoners, The Blind Side, The Book of Eli) has an offer out to Harrison Ford to reprise his celebrated role of Rick Deckard in its Ridley Scott-directed sequel to Blade Runner, it was announced by Alcon co-founders and co-CEOs Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson.

Hampton Fancher (co-writer of the 1982 adaptation) and Michael Green are the screenwriters.

While the story is being kept under wraps, it takes place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original.

State Johnson and Kosove: "We believe that Hampton Fancher and Michael Green have crafted with Ridley Scott an extraordinary sequel to one of the greatest films of all time. We would be honored, and we are hopeful, that Harrison will be part of our project."

Scott führt nicht mehr Regie...
Although plans are still underway for Alcon Entertainment to bring to the big screen a sequel to Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi classic Blade Runner, Scott today reveals to Variety that he is no longer targeting the director’s chair. Having already helped develop the screenplay alongside Hampton Fancher (who, with David Peoples, wrote the original film), Scott remains very active in the sequel’s development, but now says his plan is to serve only as producer with a helmer expected to be announced in the near future.

“We talked at length about what it could be,” Scott tells the trade of the sequel’s story, “and came up with a pretty strong three-act storyline.”

The project, which is planned to go into production next year, should feature the return of Harrison Ford as Rick Deckard. Scott has a few potential spoilers, too, regarding Deckard’s specific role in the story.

“Harrison is very much part of this one,” Scott continues, “But it’s really about finding him. He comes in in the third act.”

Villeneuve:
“When I heard that Ridley Scott wanted to do another movie in the Blade Runner universe, at first my reaction was that it’s a fantastic idea, but it may be a very bad idea. I’m among the hardcore fans of Blade Runner. Blade Runner is one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s a movie that is linked with my love and passion for cinema.”

One of Villeneuve’s main concerns was the possibility of tainting the brand, but he appears ready for the challenge.

“I’m totally aware of the huge challenge. It’s a risk I know that every single fan who walks into the theater will walk in with a baseball bat. I’m aware of that and I respect that, and it’s okay with me because it’s art. Art is risk, and I have to take risks. It’s gonna be the biggest risk of my life but I’m okay with that. For me it’s very exciting; it’s just so inspiring, I’m so inspired. I’ve been dreaming to do sci-fi since I was 10 years old, and I said ‘no’ to a lot of sequels. I couldn’t say ‘no’ to Blade Runner. I love it to much, so I said, ‘Alright fuck it, I will do it and give everything I have to make it great.’”

Inzwischen wurde auch bekannt gegeben, dass Ana die weibliche Hauptrolle des Films spielt.
Ana de Armas’ role is said to be a lead in the film, which has Denis Villeneuve (Sicario, Prisoners) directing. Principal photography is scheduled to begin July 2016. The film will be released by Warner Bros. in North America and Sony Pictures Releasing International will distribute in all media for all overseas territories.

Cuban born Ana de Armas began her career in Spanish language film and television in Cuba, then later Spain. She will be seen in two major motion pictures releasing this August, including The Weinstein Company’s boxing biopic Hands of Stone, in which she appears alongside Robert De Niro and Edgar Ramirez, and Warner Bros.’ comedic drama War Dogs, starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller.

“We think Ana is one of the most exciting, up-and-coming international actors in the world today,” say Johnson and Kosove, “and we are thrilled she will be playing such an important part in this sequel.”
