Rest in Peace - Antonia Bird

While the name may not immediately jump out at you, Antonia Bird delivered one of our most favorite films here at Dread Central called Ravenous. It's with a heavy heart we report that she's been taken from us at the all too young age of 54.

The sad news comes to us from the UK film site Eye For Film. No cause of death has been announced at this time as the news just broke early this morning after Bird passed away in London, England. We'll keep an eye out for more and update this story accordingly.

In addition to Ravenous, she was much admired for her intense, realistic films, including Priest, Mad Love and Face, for which she won a BAFTA. She also worked extensively in television, making her mark in series like "Casualty."

We here at Dread Central would like to take this time to offer our deepest of condolences to Bird's friends, family, and constituents. She will sincerely be missed. Godspeed.

Hal Needham Dead; Legendary Stuntman and Director Was 82

Hal Needham, longtime stuntman and director of “Smokey and the Bandit” and “Cannonball Run” for Burt Reynolds, has died in Los Angeles after a short battle with cancer, his manager confirmed. He was 82.

At one time the highest paid stuntman in the world, he was said to have broken 56 bones, broken his back twice, punctured a lung and knocked out a few teeth while working on 4500 TV episodes and 310 feature films.

Lou Reed mit 71 Jahren verstorben

Nachdem Lou Reed sich im Mai dieses Jahres einer Lebertransplantation unterzogen hatte, war er voller Zuversicht. Auf Facebook postete er damals: "Ich bin ein Triumph der modernen Medizin, der Physik und der Chemie. Ich bin größer und stärker als je zuvor." Er freue sich darauf, bald wieder auf der Bühne zu stehen, setzte Reed hinzu, er wolle "noch bis in ferne Zukunft Lieder schreiben, um eine Verbindung zu Euren Herzen und Eurem Geist und dem Universum herzustellen". Nun ist Reed im Alter von 71 Jahren gestorben. Der US-amerikanische "Rolling Stone" berichtet, Reeds Todesursache sei bislang noch nicht mitgeteilt worden. (Spiegel.de)

While we mourn the death of Paul Walker and the driver of the vehicle, Roger Rodas, the Los Angeles County Sherriff has stated that the cause of the collision is still under investigation. But the LASD does confirm that speed was a factor in the deadly car crash on Saturday, Nov. 30.

The two men were in a red 2005 Porsche Carrera GT and Walker was photographed right next to the vehicle right before the fatal accident at a charity event for his organization, Reach Out Worldwide. (eonline.com)

Noch bitterer ist die Ironie, dass er laut Hollywood Reporter viele Stunts bei den F&F-Filmen selbst gemacht hat und nun bei einer Fahrt, die eigentlich Routine sein sollte, als Beifahrer ums Leben kam.

Sehr traurig, aber immerhin ein schönes Alter, welches aber hinsichtlich der ihm geraubten Jahre ruhig noch etwas länger hätte gehen können. Ihn habe ich sogar bei einem Staatsbesuch in den Niederlanden live gesehen, da schipperte er gerade mit Beatrix auf der Amstel 8-)

Da ich im März nach Kapstatdt fliege, hatte ich ich mich kürzlich erst mal wieder ein wenig mit ihm beschäftigt (u.a. aufgrund meines geplanten Besuchs der Gefängnisinsel, auf der er inhaftiert war). Hat viel geleistet, der Mann - und mit 95 zudem noch ein feines Alter erreicht.
